RENOVATION: "Garden" Half-Bath Mood Board

Any DIYer will attest: The best way to fuel-the-project-flame is to invite house guests over, and insist the project is completed before their arrival.

This is precisely why this week’s attention has been paid to our “Garden” half-bath renovation. We’re hosting a bridal shower here at Content next weekend!

Foremost, the “Garden” bathroom is all about function. Currently, when special event guests visit Content, they are directed to one of 3 existing ensuite bathrooms. Ensuite meaning they need to enter a guest suite to access it. This has always been less than ideal because it limited our ability to host Airbnb guests and special events simultaneously.

The “Garden” half bath will eliminate this limitation because it’s located within the laundry room and will be accessible to everyone.

I started referring to this space as the “Garden” bathroom because it’s visible from the open-air Courtyard and for the past 4 years, I’ve dreamed of a botanical print covering its walls. The nick name stuck and so did the wallpaper choice.

To get a sense of how small the space is, imagine you are taking these two photos - simply by turning 90 degrees.

The black paint shown here is simply a base coat for the wallpaper. My father has been installing wallpaper for over 50 years, and taught us that anytime you put up dark (black, navy) paper, it’s best to use a dark paint underneath to help hide seams.

Wallpaper: This York tropical wallpaper AT7093 is everything I hoped it would be and more. Bold, vibrant but totally chic and sophisticated. I love how it seems to jump off the wall next to the crisp white wainscoting.

Toilet: Our favorite toilet (if you can have a favorite toilet) is the Kohler Highline in white with an elongated seat.

Sink: With such limited clearance, we chose this wall hung basin sink by Barclay 450. We love the rounded design that eliminates corners that could easily be caught walking by it.

Faucet: Our favorite cross handle faucet the Metropolitan by Kingston Brass (shown here in oil rubbed bronze) but available in seven other combinations as well.

Light Fixture: I love mixing finishes and this brass flush mount fixture by Savoy House is the perfect accent.

Mirror: I love how this round metal mirror adds a new opportunity for the gold/brass accent.
